My name is Calvin Howell and I am a visual artist based in Sonoma County, California.

I work in a variety of mediums including gouache painting, pen and ink illustration, and fiber arts.

With a background in land stewardship and restoration, my artwork is inspired by natural systems and human relationship to land. I am interested in the role of storytelling in land-human relationships, and the key part folk art plays in the development of mythology and culture.

In my work, I explore reverence for natural systems, the magic of fairytales, and play. Key artistic inspirations for me include the work of Bill Waterson, Jim Henson, James Gurney, and Brian Froud.

When not engaged in the arts, I am likely cooking, hosting, camping, or gardening.
